Brooklyn Bridge
Construction began on January 3, 1870 connecting the New York City
boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, The Brooklyn Bridge is one of the
oldest suspension bridges in the United States, 5,989 long over the
East River. Upon completion May 24, 1883, it was the longest suspension
bridge in the world, the first bridge to connect to Long Island,the
first steel-wire suspension bridge. Originally called New York and
Brooklyn Bridge, it was dubbed the Brooklyn Bridge in 1867.
